FiatLux Imaging Introduces Enhancements to Visualize™ 3D Application at RSNA 2008, Showcases a New Paradigm in Advanced Medical Imaging Visualization
Anywhere, any time 3D image analysis on laptop, tablet and new ultra-mobile computers as well as a host of innovative viewing features for radiologists and other medical specialists, will highlight enhancements to FiatLux Imaging’s Visualize™ previewing at the 2008 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Conference.
Ushering in new possibilities for high-quality, affordable 3D medical image visualization, FiatLux Visualize™—which debuted following FDA-clearance in August—harnesses the power of video game technology to set new standards in 3D image quality and processing speed. The software takes advantage of Direct3D game programming technologies and the untapped potential of today’s video graphic cards to deliver stunning image reformations from CT and MRI scans. Finally, the same sophisticated technology that propels realistic, detailed images of rockets and aliens through space in popular games is being applied to images of the human body in healthcare.
“FiatLux Imaging is introducing a revolutionary and much-needed new paradigm in advanced medical image processing,” says FiatLux Imaging CEO Mary Frances Feider. “While the video game industry has wrought dramatic advances in both hardware- and software-based 3D rendering, the benefits of this have not been realized in the healthcare field. With engineering roots in the game industry, FiatLux Imaging is about to change that.”
Noting the similarities between video game graphic display and sophisticated 3D medical image visualization, radiologists have acknowledged that the ultra-fast, smooth and precise rendering accomplished in gaming would benefit medical image interpretation and workflow. “Radiologists who evaluated FiatLux Visualize have underscored the superiority of our image processing technology as well as the value of our efficient, intuitive approach to image visualization for medical specialists who rely on 3D processing. Ironically, for example, turning and rotating images is often faster, cleaner and simply better in entertainment software than in the medical applications. FiatLux Imaging is committed to bringing the most sophisticated imaging technology into the healthcare arena,” says Feider.
Along with enhanced image quality, FiatLux Visualize offers healthcare professionals an affordable and flexible alternative to traditional, costly, dedicated 3D processing workstations. Without the need for costly hardware-intensive image processing, the easy-to-use FiatLux Visualize application runs on commodity-priced PCs and now on a full range of portable computers. As the role of mobile computing grows in healthcare, FiatLux Visualize brings 3D images to everyday conferences, bedside for patient consultations, and into physician’s homes, or virtually anywhere—all without a significant financial investment.
FiatLux Visualize supports a range of today’s 3D and advanced 2D image processing protocols, including MIP, MPR, and advanced volume reconstruction comparable to high-priced dedicated workstations on the market today.
User-friendly, FiatLux Visualize features state-of-the-art tools including segmentation, editing and analysis.
“Our market research shows that multi-modality image comparisons—the ability to view side-by-side displays of data sets from different modalities such as CT and MR—is a highly requested feature,” said Feider. “At RSNA, we also will unveil plans for FiatLux Visualize to deliver these comparisons as well as advanced features fine-tuned for radiology sub-specialists and medical specialists such as neurosurgeons, cardiologists, and orthopedists.”
FiatLux Visualize’s innovative, flexible approach to 3D post-processing will enable a wider and potentially much broader use of 3D and other advanced image visualization, according to Feider. Currently, FiatLux Visualize is priced at less than $3,000 per license.
