1. Who is FiatLux Imaging?
Established in April 2007, FiatLux Imaging, Inc. was founded with the vision to create revolutionary medical imaging software that is dynamic and powerful, yet inexpensive and easy to use. Our goal is to dramatically improve the state of patient care by providing superb volume visualization and analysis software in the hands of every physician.
2. What does the name FiatLux mean?
Fiat Lux is Latin for “Let there be light.”
3. What is FiatLux Visualize™?
FiatLux Visualize™ is an advanced visualization, volume rendering software product for MRI and CT that runs on everyday PCs including laptops, tablets and ultra‐mobile PCs.
4. Who can use the software?
The easy‐to‐use software can be used by any medical professional who needs image viewing or analysis. Physicians, radiologists, medical technicians, nurses, and other trained medical professionals can utilize FiatLux Visualize™ to aid in diagnosis, intervention, planning, and patient consultation.
5. How does FiatLux Visualize™ compare with other products on the market?
FiatLux Visualize™ utilizes DirectX‐based game technology to create stunning 3D models from volumetric DICOM data images from CT and MRI studies. FiatLux Visualize™ is reasonably priced, and all functions are tightly integrated in a single easy‐to‐use package that runs on commodity priced personal computers. Physicians who don’t have access to expensive advanced visualization or PACS workstations now have a powerful adjunctive solution at their fingertips.
6. How will I know if FiatLux Visualize™ can run on my laptop or PC?
FiatLux Visualize™ software runs on a broad range of hardware. See User Manual Chapter 3 Minimum Hardware and Software Requirements or the document entitled FiatLux Visualize 1.0 Minimum Hardware and Software Requirements.
7. What training is available?
FiatLux Visualize™ is easy to learn and use. No specific training is required beyond basic familiarization with the user manual. Additionally, FiatLux Imaging provides users online training and full customer support.
8. Is FiatLux Visualize™ FDA cleared?
Yes, FiatLux Visualize™ has received FDA 510(k) clearance.
9. Can I buy FiatLux Visualize™ outside of the United States?
No, not at this time. However, FiatLux Imaging is in the process of applying to international regulatory agencies for clearance in other countries.
10. What if I am interested in viewing a Beta of a future version of FiatLux Visualize™ release?
FiatLux Imaging is always on the lookout for qualified beta test sites. Please send a summary of interest to Beta Programs.
11. Can I have a trial copy of FiatLux Visualize™?
Please email us for potentially large opportunities (e.g. > 20 licenses). Each request will be evaluated.
12. Does my purchase of FiatLux Visualize™ include a free update or upgrade to the next released version?
FiatLux Imaging will provide customers free updates within one year of purchase for releases that are for defect fixes or minor feature updates. Upgrades to versions with new features will be separately priced.
13. Does FiatLux offer site licensing or quantity discounts?
Yes, typically for sales of 50 or more licenses. Please email us to discuss site licensing options.
14. What types of medical images can I load?
FiatLux Visualize™ is ready to read CT and MRI scans the moment it is installed on a PC. FiatLux Visualize™ is compliant to the DICOM 3.0 standard for reading CT and MRI images as documented in the FiatLux Visualize v1.0 DICOM Conformance Statement. Support for additional image types is under development for release in future versions.
15. What size of study can I load? How many slices?
Using FiatLux Visualize™ smart memory management and depending on the image resolution in the original acquisition and the RAM of the graphics card processor on the viewing machine, FiatLux Visualize™ handles studies between 128 and 512 slices in 3D at once. Choose Preferences from the Visualize menu to optimize rendering performance for your system.
16. Which advanced visualization and analytical features are included in FiatLux Visualize™?
The FiatLux Visualize v1.0 tools include:
- Data Set – select study, hide patient name, reload, hide all
- Volume/Slice – clip, yoke, scroll, remove table
- Manipulation – zoom to area, zoom in/out, rotate, move, reset
- Appearance – window, reset window, MIP/Undo MIP, settings, create note, arrows
- Measurement
- View – snapshot, new view port
- History – redo, undo
- Help

17. Can I change the “hanging protocol” in FiatLux Visualize™ to fit my specific needs?
Yes, you can choose from a number of different provided layouts. Details on how to accomplish this are provided in the User Manual, which accompanies the product.
18. Can I save JPEG images for use in presentations?
Yes, FiatLux Visualize™ allows users to save images in GIF, TIFF, BMP, PNG, and JPEG format. However, secondary image snapshots are saved in a non‐DICOM format and are not for diagnostic use. Details for saving images are provided in the User Manual, which accompanies the product.
19. Can I print images from FiatLux Visualize™?
Yes, by first exporting to a saved image. Printed images are not for diagnostic use.
20. Do I need to install different viewers for each specialty?
FiatLux Visualize™ v1.0 is a powerful, general‐purpose viewing and analysis tool appropriate for physicians, radiologists, medical technicians, nurses, and other trained medical professionals. In future releases, special tools for specific areas of practice may be included.
21. How does FiatLux Visualize™ fit into my workflow for medical imaging?
FiatLux Visualize™ v1.0 was designed to enhance accessibility of medical scans outside of radiology departments by loading MR and CT studies from any standard DICOM files on a CD or other removable media. FiatLux Visualize™ v1.0 is not meant to replace or augment the workflow in radiology departments. Using FiatLux Visualize™ physicians can access information beyond what is available on basic PACS applications or free proprietary CD viewers.
